Alice O’Brien was born around 1845 in Co. Kilkenny.  Alice was one of six daughters born to James and Mary O’Brien.

Alice married John Whelan on March 9th, 1867 in the Roman Catholic Chapel in Tramore Co. Waterford.  Alice and John had nine children: Delia, Mary, Margaret, Alice, Catherine, Edward, Michael, John Joseph “Jack” and Anna.

Following her husband’s death in July, 1911, Alice emigrated to North Troy, NY along with her daughters Alice and Anna.  Daughters Delia, Mary, Margaret and Catherine proceeded Alice to the US, as had her five sisters.  Her son Jack followed in 1927.

Alice died on Aug. 13th, 1915 and is buried in St. John Cemetery in North Troy along with her daughters Alice and Anna.
