James Millea was probably born in the mid 1850’s. He was most likely from the Arbour Hill section of Dublin as the Millea family owned property on Parkgate St. near Phoenix Park. He married Elizabeth “Lizzie” Sherlock in 1877 in Dublin. James and Lizzie had three daughters – Mary Agnes “Mae”, Catherine “Sissy” and Florence “Florie”.
James seems to have left the family some time after Florie’s birth (1884) and he is does not appear in the 1901 Irish Census. One theory is that he emigrated to Australia and there is a James Millea listed in the 1906 census of a western Australian district. That census also lists a Richard Millea who may have been James’ brother.
