Mae Millea (circa 1935)

“Mae” was born in Dublin on Nov. 8th, 1878, the eldest of three daughters born to James and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Sherlock) Millea.  She was trained as a midwife at St. Patrick Dun’s Hospital in Dublin then moved to Hospital Co. Limerick with her mother Lizzie and her sisters Sissy and Florence.  Mae married Jack Whelan and they had 8 children: Elsie, Moira, Kathleen, Agnes, Jack, Alice, Paddy and Carmel.  The family lived in Hospital, Galway city, Oughterard Co. Galway and Dublin before emigrating to Renfrew, Scotland and then Albany, NY.  Mae died on Jan. 31st, 1937 and is buried in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, NY.
