Patrick “Paddy” Whelan (circa 1927)

Patrick Joseph “Paddy” Whelan was born on Mar. 25th, 1917 in Oughterard Co. Galway.  He was the seventh child of Jack and Mae Whelan.  He had six sisters – Elsie, Moira, Kathleen, Agnes, Alice and Carmel, and a brother – Jack.  Pat came to America with his family in April of 1927, living at 32 Albany St. in Albany, NY.

Pat attended Christian Brothers Academy in Albany.  He loved running, golfing, dancing and playing bridge.  Pat was a horseman in a cavalry division of the National Guard during World War II.

Pat married Mary Giordano in about 1942.  Pat and Mary had a daughter, Linda, during their 63 years together.  Pat passed away on Oct. 7th, 2005.
